Inspiration

We liked the idea of everyone at the party being able to contribute songs, whether or not they have spotify.

How it works

When people get in range of the party the estimote picks this up and sends them the app where they can send song requests to the web app.

Challenges we ran into

Issues with authorisation of the spotify api. Not being able to correctly pass arguments from different sections of the spotify api. Getting the android app to communicate with web app. Then getting the web app to run the script to add songs to playlist.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We explored a large variety of previously unused languages by ourselves, we are also beginners to hardware hacking so we are pleased that the hardware end of it worked.

What we learned

None of us had worked with a Django back end before. So we had to learn how to use that from the ground up.

What's next for 48 Hour Party Playlist

Updates the android app so that you can view the song currently being played and see what's coming up next. An option that as well as sending songs to be shuffled into playlist, songs that play instantly for a dramatic entrance to the party. We feel that we could run the server on a Raspberry Pi or some similar tech, this would be something we would need to look into however.
