I hate Robo Calls. I am on the Do Not Call List, and yet I still receive all sorts of solicitations on a daily basis. However, I have come up with my own method of making sure I don’t receive the phone calls.

Please note: This only works for MOBILE phones (that I am aware of).

When I receive a phone call from an automated system, I immediately hang up (do NOT press ANY numbers!). I then go to my call list and save the Robo number in my contacts as “Blocked Numbers”. It does not matter what category it is saved under (mobile, home, work, etc.). I then go to my options/settings for this “contact” and Block the contact. This prevents them from even getting my phone to ring! This is a very easy method for anyone who has a mobile phone. Sometimes, I will have an indication that a voicemail has been left on my phone, but as the phone didn’t ring, I know it was a Robo Call. I check the messages and there is never an actual voicemail, which can be a minor annoyance, but at least my dinner wasn’t interrupted by an unwanted phone call. Now normally, when one of these calls comes up and you choose to let it go to voicemail, the caller doesn’t leave a message. This is very frustrating, when you’re wondering who on earth is calling you at all hours of the day. If you are uncertain, don’t answer the call, take the number from your Caller ID and Google it! Chances are, someone else has received these calls and can tell you if it is a scam call.

Obviously, Robo-Callers use multiple numbers to try and contact you. Just save each one under your “Blocked Numbers” contact and after a while you won’t have any problems. It has taken me a few weeks, but my phone has become quieter and quieter. Now my phone rarely rings, and I don’t answer any number I don’t know, and if they don’t leave a message, I Google the number. If it is a scam, it gets added to the list. If it’s a legitimate company I do business with, I will answer when they call back.

This method can be used immediately if you have a cell phone, and is very easy to learn. I’m not sure how it could be implemented to land lines as I haven’t had one in over 10 years, but I’m sure there is a way.

Please let people know that this is a viable option. Eventually, the calls will stop when the Robo-Callers realize that your number is not viable for an actual person they can scam money out of.
