HistoryNear.Me is a mobile web application providing a way to "find a little history nearby". It is a simple, yet elegant application that uses the users location to find the closest historical sites in San Diego, then provides walking directions to get them on their way exploring the history of this great city.
HistoryNear.me is possible because of open data provided by City of San Diego Development Services Department. It is built with open source technology and the code is freely available on Github: https://github.com/zzolo/historynear.me
Built on responsive web design principles it will provide a great user experience across browsers, platforms, and devices.
Though this application focuses on San Diego, it can be easily deployed or extended to let people explore historical sites of any city.
