Inspiration

A listing from numbeo.com (http://www.numbeo.com/crime/city_result.jsp?country=India&city=Chennai) states that, concerns about home robbery and property stolen remains as "high" in our Metropolitan, Chennai and is a major nightmare for people leaving their homes for vacations/work. With this in mind, we describe the idea of "RIP, Burglars". Internet of things is constantly evolving, and applying it to replace the complex security systems by a inexpensive device would be beneficial for many who are constantly worrying about their home safety.

How it works

"RIP,Burglars" is a mobile app which automatically warns if there is a break-in at home. The mobile app is simple and it has three options (Auto Detect, Auto Tweet, Auto Monitor). Auto Detect ( Detects for any motion at home and saves it to the app) Auto Tweet (Detects for any motion and automatically tweets to Police Twitter page (if any)) Auto Monitor (Takes continuous pictures of home at a regular interval, which can be later viewed in the app) The home is monitored by a Raspberry pi device (which has a motion sensor ,camera module). We will be building the raspberry pi to detect motion and save it to the backend. The details can then be retrieved by the mobile app. It will also have an ability to tweet to a particular page. We are planning to use Parse IOT.

Challenges I ran into

Adjusting the sensitivity of the PIR Motion sensor Integrating different modules together

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

This can help many people to enjoy a nice vacation :)

What I learned

While working together with teammates with different ares of expertise, more emphasis must be given to integration of individual modules. Hardware projects are really cool.

What's next for Rest In Peace, Burglars

Vision for the product: • Build a fool proof system(Reducing false-positives) • Automatically push notifications to the app • Automatically upload video if any motion detected in the home.
