We built a reminder service that allows the homeless to allow them to set reminders for medical services such as refilling prescriptions and doctor's appointments. Because few homeless people have access to smartphones but all phones have access to sms, we have the reminders sent over sms through the twilio api. This ensures cross platform capability for every phone, as well as allows the app to work regardless of data connection.
