Reinvent the NYPL as a readily searchable multi-media repository that will be the basis for the creation of any number of virtual libraries such as the Childrens Library or the Medical Library, or whatever. The key to discoverability is searchability, where the basis for search ability is an arbitrary number of specific search tags that are selected in cooperation with subject matter experts. The tags will be organized in a hierarchy to enable context-sensitive searching, and they will be used to create the search boxes that will populate custom search forms which will be created on the fly from these tags. The top level of these tags are actually the virtual libraries. The librarians' job description will move from glorified book clerks to curators of the virtual libraries - and moderators of groups built around a specific interest.
