Cross platform location sharing for both mobile platforms and web. fuck blackberry.

Why?

Apple just introduced this for iMessage, android has some apps that do it, nothing cross platform that we liked for both mobile platforms and web.

Mainly driven by a pun on the Aus tourism ad.

Who?

Four guys from sydney, limited Scala experience before this weekend, only 3 of us hadnt written a line of Scala before, 1 of us still hasn't.

What we have accomplished in 30 hours

  • scala back end build on akka/play framework, coffescript, mapbox for awesome maps, and Android mobile app.

What is planned

  • Sharing private rooms
    • persisted user room for sharing location between friends for 1 day, 1 week, forever.
  • Broadcast mode, limited people sharing their location, many watching updates for marathons/sporting events, etc.
  • video/text chat inside the app
  • public rooms around events (meetups, hackathons, music festivals, etc)
  • limit scope of visible people in any public rooms to only friends from social networks -

Actual bsuness plan

  • sale of non-identifiable aggregated data.
  • fee for event rooms, up sell on static landmarks (food trucks, festival stages, bathrooms, etc) -
