Hire Gauge is a unique interactive app that helps employers calculate the financial savings and cultural benefits that come from hiring a person with a disability. The tool is the brainchild of Think Beyond the Label, which created Hire Gauge using current data from human resource and diversity organizations, federal and state government agencies including the departments of Commerce, Labor and Veterans Affairs, and case studies from companies.

Hire Gauge aggregates and displays multiple sources of research into a creative and highly interactive package, allowing businesses to get, and share with others, an instantaneous, factual look at how inclusive hiring can and will positively impact their bottom line. The “Cash Meter” tallies up the financial incentives, while a supporting “Culture Cultivator” adds up the less tangible cultural benefits. The results are intended to guide and provide support to hiring managers in their ongoing diversity and inclusion programs, as well as to encourage more businesses to broaden their recruitment efforts to include people with disabilities.

Hire Gauge is W3C (WCAG 2.0 Level A) compliant and can be used on any mobile-enabled smartphone or Internet browser and takes less than five minutes to get results; it also provides employers with a menu of resources in their states to find qualified candidates with disabilities, including vocational rehabilitation agencies and employment networks.

Lauded by The New York Times as “not your father’s hire the handicapped campaign,” Think Beyond the Label is a public-private partnership working to increase the employment of people with disabilities across the nation. Resources at ThinkBeyondtheLabel.com effectively build the pipeline of qualified candidates with disabilities, bust myths about disability hiring, and raise awareness that hiring people with disabilities makes good business sense.
