*## (Star-Pound-Pound) is a simple to use and easy to remember crowd-sourced database for eliminating robocalls. When a consumer gets a robocall, they simply end the call, and then dial *## afterward. After listening for the brief thank-you message, they can hang up. Behind the scenes, the phone company's computers receive the *## call and flag the last number that called you as a robocaller in a database setup and maintained by the FTC. As more people receive robocalls from that number and report them by dialing *##, the amount of flags increase. When the number receives enough flags to ensure the number was not flagged by mistake, the phone companies block the number, while the FTC investigates and takes appropriate action.
