We built an app called The Status Atlas. The Status Atlas uses NYC Neighborhood data and Twitter to find popular words and phrases being tweeted in Brooklyn neighborhoods.
What we've done is used Twitter to find the most popular term for each neighborhood. You can think of it as "trending" for neighborhoods. Then we've taken a simple Google map, stylized it, added neighborhood boundaries and overlaid the trending terms on each neighborhood.
To use the app, just go to thestatusatlas.com and see what's trending.
